About the Skipper - Ginny Gerlach

With over 20 years sailing and cruising experience Ginny has logged over 60,000 miles at sea.

She is a qualified trainer with an impressive list of qualifications including:

  • Yachting Australia Yachtmaster Offshore

  • Yachting Australia Yachtmaster Instructor (Sail)

  • International Sail and Power Association Instructor

  •  Marine Board of Queensland Master Class V – Sail and Coxswain

More importantly, Ginny’s years of practical experience include 10 years living aboard and cruising in the South and North Pacific – most of it as the skipper of small private vessels under 14 metres in length – sailing short handed. This experience enables her to share knowledge to potential sailors with the same or similar dreams.

Over those years and miles she has built up a wealth of knowledge in sailing, seamanship, navigation, passage planning and general cruising skills.  This knowledge coupled with her experience as a trainer in the land based world offers the sailing student the opportunity to make the most of their sail training and gain well rounded experience in all the practical skills that sailing requires.

Ginny’s sailing experience extends across the Pacific to include: Australia, New Zealand, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Tonga, Fiji, Cook Islands, Line Islands, French Polynesia, Hawaii, Alaska, Canada and the West Coast of the United States.  Recent years have been based in Yeppoon and sailing up and down the Queensland coast.

Other relevant work experience includes working in the following industries:

  • Marine – marina construction and management, brokerage, chandlery and bareboat charter

  • Tourism – marine and general

  • Education and Training – trainer and training coordinator

  • Building – small business operator
